We had the honor and challenge to supply two huge free laying bespoke rugs for the City of Den Helder this month.

We had the honor and challenge to supply two huge free laying bespoke rugs for the City of Den Helder this month. Oliver Treutlein has a lot of experience with manufacturing big rugs and carpets for projects on land and water. Nonetheless, the council meeting room rug, hand tufted with 22 colors in finest New Zealand wool highlighted with ornaments in shiny bamboo silk with the size of 11,4 by 14,1 meter is one of the biggest one piece seamless rugs we ever did with its weight of 979 Kg. After the colors had been dyed which took 5 weeks the tufting, latexing, shearing and carving of the pieces took 14 weeks for our team to completion. We did not have any allowance speaking about time and sizes. We made it in time and the delivery took place as requested right before the new furniture arrived. After the summer holidays the representatives of the city will now work on an Oliver Treutlein carpet. And in the second beautiful historic hall we supplied weddings will take place. This is so exciting. We wish all the future couples good luck for the common future. They will say “yes” with our carpet under their feet and a view to the old marine base. We are grateful and so happy that we have been in involved into this very special project by the designer Edith van Berkel and the Gemeente Ten Helder. It was an honor to bring Ediths ideas to the floor. She has so well managed to create that matching carpet design with the beautiful historic building and related it with the maritime history of Den Helder.

Here some impressions from the working process.
